iFixit disassembles and benchmarks new AirPort Extreme

If you’ve wanted to see the inside of Apple’s latest AirPort Extreme, or just want to know how it compares to older models, site-sponsor iFixit has a fascinating disassembly and benchmarks. At 300 feet from the base stations, the older 802.11g unit was out of range, while with the new 802.11 unit “we were still getting 500 KB/s. We got tired of walking and stopped. I suspect you could still get signal at twice that.” Some great photos accompany the piece, so if you’re looking to justify an upgrade to the new base station, take a look.
