First high-capacity MacBook battery announced

Fastmac, makers of numerous high-capacity batteries for Apple portables, have announced they’re expanding their line into replacement batteries for the MacBook. The batteries, which are 60 watt hours, come in both white and black to match either MacBook and have integrated LEDs, just like the original battery. One benefit of Fastmac’s batteries is the use of TruePower technology:

This technology incorporates sensors in the integrated circuit inside the battery that detect undesirable levels of swelling or a short circuit that will power off the battery in certain extreme conditions. TruePower batteries do not contain or use any Sony cells that are subject to the recent series of recalls issued by major computer manufacturers.

At $30 less than a replacement battery from Apple and with 10-percent greater capacity, Fastmac’s battery is a good alternative. The MacBook TruePower battery is $100 and available for pre-order now from the FastMac website and will ship in 30 days.
