News and notes

Computerworld keeps pumping out the goods, this time with an interesting comparison between the late, great Newton and the forthcoming iPhone. Reading this almost made me want to dig out my old Newton 120, so I could remember those fond times cursing the fact that I hadn’t ponied up the extra cash for the backlit 130.

Another very interesting article is available from mad4mobilephones.com, which has a look at the 21 most important iPhone patents. Considering Apple’s claim of over 200 patents related to the iPhone, it’s quite a list just to see the top 21.

Last, that blue chip of the Mac press, MacNN, has a review of a USB Universal Drive Adapter. The device offers a convenient way of connecting bare hard drives to your MacBook or MacBook Pro via USB 2.0, great for transfers without a true external hard drive. Especially considering how easy it is to swap out hard drives in the MacBooks, this accessory is quite a bargain at $25. The only downsides the reviewer found were the lack of carrying case and the complexity that is pretty much inherent to such an item.
