News and notes

Over at Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories there is a hilarious “hands on” with a test of the iPhone. See what Apple changed between the prototype iPhone demonstrated during Steve’s Macworld keynote and the final shipping product.

Macworld has a review of the Aegis Portable 80GB hard drive, a compact external FireWire drive. The $139 drive gets high marks for its size and weight, price, and features like built-in cable and bus power, but loses points for being FireWire 400. If speed isn’t a concern, though, like overnight backups of your PowerBook or MacBook, or if you have an older FireWire 400-only Mac, this looks like a nice option from Apricorn.
