Apple chief Steve Jobs recently posted a letter on the Apple website entitled A Greener Apple, featuring a rather detailed description of Apple’s environmental efforts and future plans. One of the most exciting moves is the announcement that they’ll be transitioning all LCDs over to LED-backlit displays. From an environmental perspective, this apparently reduces mercury content in LCDs, but should also improve battery life, and possibly even display quality.

Some are speculating that the 15-inch MacBook Pro will be the first with an LED LCD, because it is the smallest display outside the consumer-aimed 13-inch MacBook.

    Remember too that with LED backlights they will be brighter, more even, and have an indefinite life. The same cannot be said about the current fluorescent bulbs.
