If you want the biggest and the fastest notebook hard drive available, Hitachi’s latest offering should be on the top of your wish list. The 7K200 packs a 200GB, 7200 RPM drive into your notebook, an industry first. Hitachi claims the drives are designed to consume the same amount of power as a 5400 RPM drive, and that there’s no excessive noise from the extra spinning, which, if true, would mean the only downside is the potential cost. Dell and Alienware are already offering the 200GB drive in some of their notebook models, so let’s hope Apple offers it–even if only as a BTO option–soon.
