Rumor roundup: new MacBooks, MacBook Pros, ultra-portable
Both AppleInsider and ThinkSecret have revealed new rumors on Apple’s plans for the MacBook, MacBook Pro, and unreleased ultra-portable lines.
AI reports that we shouldn’t expect any major updates to the MacBook, with Intel’s new Santa Rosa platform not likely to make the next revision, with the same going for LED LCDs, which are expected in a revision later in the year. Regardless of the significance of the update, ThinkSecret speculates that the update should come quite soon, with supplies of the current MacBook so low.
As for the MacBook Pro, the next revision will almost certainly be powered by the Santa Rosa platform, which can get up to 2.4 GHz, and an LED-backlit LCD, a first for Apple.
In a rather surprising development, the long-rumored ultra-portable from Apple is apparently going to feature a 13-inch screen. A 10-inch model had long been speculated, and the decision to go with something more like a very thin MacBook could be a disappointment to those looking for something a little more compact. It will be interesting to see whether Apple chooses to market the ultra-portable as an addition to the MacBook lineup, an ultra-light MacBook Pro, or something altogether different. Again going by AI’s article, the ultra-portable is expected to arrive in late 2007 or early 2008.
