ModBook beefier than ever and shipping soon
The ModBook–everyone’s favorite tricked-out Apple portable–has seen another pre-release revision following the unveiling of the new MacBooks last week. The bad news is that this comes with another delay, this time into early June for the first shipments, with pre-orders being fulfilled through July.
The latest specs on the ModBook include clockspeeds of 2.0GHz or 2.16GHz and 2GB of RAM, with the option of up to 3GB of RAM, 160GB 7200 RPM or 250GB 5400 RPM hard drive, and second hard drive instead of optical drive. More information on the ModBook is available from Axiotron.

UPDATE to this now that there is another delay once again. All the Pre-Orders will now be shipping at the end of July into August. Problem is they have a shortage on parts for the conversions.
I’m still waiting though, this happens with all things new like this. I have to say that an 8 month wait from the Jan 9th order date is a rather long time to wait.
The delay has now been pushed to Q4 2007. The excuse again is a “parts shortage”. One wonders if the next problem will be a “shipping container shortage”. I ordered one in January and I just cancelled. There was no notification of this latest (and 3rd, 4th?) delay. If they cannot be professional enough to launch on time or even to inform their users of this latest delay, then how much faith can one put in their product or their service after (and if) final delivery happens. Nice idea. Maybe a company that’s got it’s act together can come up with one. As for Axiotron/OWC? Not a chance. This is now sadly in the category of “vaporware”.
