QuickerTek introduces external MacBook/MacBook Pro battery

If you’re like us, you love your external battery for your iPhone that depletes itself before allowing the iPhone to sacrifice its own electrons, boosting the notorious short juice life of the 3G model.

QuickerTek has brought that concept to the full range of Apple laptop offerings, including their newest external battery and charger for the newer “unibody” 13″ MacBook and 15″ MacBook Pro. It works like this: when you drop off the power grid, the QuickerTek external battery will keep your internal battery at 100% for hours before running out of juice, allowing the internal battery to soldier on alone, for a combined total battery time of “up to 10 hours,” per QuickerTek’s claim.

Well, we’ll see that when we believe it (and we’re going to try to review this unit for you soon) but we assume it does pack quite a punch, because it weighs five pounds! Also, it’ll set you back $450, which could buy you a little more than 3 extra batteries for the MacBook from the Apple Store–though that’d be a little bit much to carry around and switch out. Does anyone have one of these for the other MacBooks? We’d love your opinion at editor @ pbzone (dot) com!

  1. This is probably ideal for Air users but the extra bulk may discourage them since the whole point of the air is to travel light. Perhaps for on the field professionals using the unibody 17 inch who need all day power beyond what the 8 hour internal battery can provide?
